CERTIFIED COOPERATIVE SPECIALIST

The Midwest Association of Housing Cooperatives (MAHC) offers a comprehensive training program that includes a wide range of topics and intensive training components to provide professional development and education for Board Members and decision-makers in the cooperative housing industry. Participants can learn new skills, validate their existing skills, and gain a better understanding of the latest technologies and solutions to tackle the day-to-day challenges of managing cooperatives.

​

The program offers instructor-led training and materials such as handouts, workshop and visual graphics of primo quality, and a newly updated manual that includes powerpoint slides, tests, and a small property prototype manual, all of which have been reworked to keep it exciting, dynamic, and pertinent with new things and new ways to do things. The certification program provides an industry standard that recognizes individuals who have invested in becoming certified in the cooperative organizations.

Certification demonstrates a commitment to a level of proficiency that can be relied upon and offers structured, reliable evidence of skills. In today's complex and highly specialized economy, credentials are everything. By educating a director, management, or staff, the program aims to educate the entire community about cooperative management and ways to get and keep your cooperative out in front.

MAHC is committed to promoting and strengthening the cooperative housing movement across America, recognizing the importance of a supportive network for individual housing cooperatives, and striving to bring together professionals from various industries to provide comprehensive guidance and services to preserve the cooperative lifestyle through education and collaboration.

NEW BOARD MEMBER TRAINING

The Midwest Association of Housing Cooperatives (MAHC) offers training programs for new board members in the cooperative housing industry. The New Board Member training program is designed to provide comprehensive education and training to equip new board members with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill their roles and responsibilities effectively.

​

The program covers various topics such as governance, management, finance, legal, and maintenance aspects of cooperative housing. Participants can learn about the cooperative principles and values, cooperative governance, board structure, roles, and responsibilities, legal and regulatory requirements, financial management, budgeting, reserves, and maintenance of the physical property.

The program is led by experienced instructors who are knowledgeable about cooperative housing practices and principles. The training is delivered in various formats such as in-person, online, or a combination of both to provide maximum flexibility for participants.

CERTIFIED SPECIALIST of FAIR HOUSING (CSFH)

NAHRO’s Certified Specialist of Fair Housing (CSFH) designation demonstrates that an individual has the knowledge, skills and ability necessary for:
